Alexander Mettenheimer has over 30 years of experience in international financial services compa-nies. He successively held professional and leadership roles across various functions in different countries. He has successfully led a number of restructuring and transformation projects. His most recent corporate role was as CEO of BHF Bank AG prior to it becoming ODDO BHF Bank AG. He has co-founded the Small & MidCap Investmentbank AG.

Alexander started his professional career in London with Citibank’s trading room. After several years in various roles he was asked to merge the corporate marketing unit of Citibank in Frankfurt with Citi‘s investment arm. Shortly thereafter he became treasurer of KKB, Citi‘s highly successful retail-bank in Germany (today Targobank). In that role he pioneered early securitisation transactions. In 1992 he became an Executive Director at then Citi Privatkunden AG (now Targobank), where he was put in charge of 300 branches and as a Non Executive Director of the insurance subsidiaries. 1997 Citi asked him to take the helm at CONFIA, the 11th largest bank of Mexico, then acquired by Citi, which he led succesfully through a very challenging restructuring and merger with Citi‘s existing business. After a stint at Citi‘s regional Headquarter for Latin America in Fort Lauderdale as Director for the internal functions across all LATAM Countries he was appointed 2001 Partner and then CEO of one of the oldest German Private Banks Merck Finck Co Privatbankiers, which he revitalized and made it “a serious competitor” as the doyen of the industry once said. In 2010 he left this role and become 1st Deputy Chairman of Bayerische Landesbank and took on various other supervisory Board roles (such as an TR European Growth, a UK investment Trust) whilst he was cofounding Small &MidCap Investmentbank AG, which he now chairs. From 2015 to 2016 he was appointed interim CEO at BHF Bank and led it through a strenuous period of takeover attempts. He is co-founder and MD of TopCap Partner (Europe) GmbH, a Private Equity Placement Agency. He was the Chairman of the Money and Credit Committee of the Deutsche Industrie und Handelskammer.
Alexander has been married for over 35 years. He and his wife have four grown up children. He chairs “Aid to the Church in Need eV in Germany” and the Förderverein of Munichs Lenbachhaus, the famous collection of the Blue Rider. He takes active interest in political affairs but enjoys life in Munich and on his farm at the Cape of Good Hope.
