Andreas Poensgen has 30+ years of international experience as strategy consultant and co-founder and owner of an investment holding. He has deep expertise in strategy development and formulation, transformation, post-merger integration and restructuring of large international firms. His experience in large scale transformations ranges from the early process restructuring in the early 1990s to today’s agile transformations. In addition, he has deep experience in incubating new business models and assisting small and midsize companies in accelerating growth and M & A. A focus he has built is the healthcare sector, mostly in Europe and North America, including experience in African and Asian countries. Andreas Poensgen holds a doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University and has completed an investment banking education at New York Business School.
His 20+ years as international strategy consultant with the Boston Consulting Group have helped him develop a deep sensitivity for intercultural characteristics and profound interpersonal skills, allowing him to effectively deal with a wide range of personalities, characters, and interests.> He has seen many a strategic or operational challenge in global firms, and at the same time he is no stranger at all to the typical constellations of owned/family-led companies. He served as a board member for various health care companies in the health care delivery sector.
Andreas Poensgen started his professional career at Deutsche Bank in 1986, as a member of the first cohort of a bespoke investment banking education program. At the end of 1987 he joined the Boston Consulting Group. During his 21 years at BCG, he worked in various offices (Düsseldorf, Paris, Hamburg, Zurich) and held a variety of leadership roles as partner and senior partner (e.g., CEO Switzerland, European Management Team, Practice Area Leader Health Care). His focus areas were the healthcare, machinery/industrial equipment, and banking sectors. In 2009, he co-founded an investment holding, Turgot Ventures, in Pfäffikon/Switzerland.
Andreas lives in Hamburg with his colourful and international family that can be found living in a wide variety of countries. A second marriage added 4 children to his own 5 children, and he proudly sees the number of his grandchildren growing . He is active at universities (e.g., St. Gallen, Leuphana, Glasgow), conducting seminars on management and engaging in opening the horizon of business students for topics beyond business – e.g., the insights the history of ideas or other scientific disciplines. He actively supports the Cecil Rhodes Scholarship Foundation, Oxford. As a music lover he organises concerts for up-and-coming musicians who have won their first international prizes. He loves to read, to travel, plays golf and enjoys sailing.
